Thanks for visiting the new website. It's neato, isn't it? Now not only can I put on my resume that I am a songwriter but that I also have basic html editing skills. I recently released a new album called The Paradise Sessions.
Last December, I recruited 5 musicians to join me on a west coast tour. I had played with each member separately but this group was an entirely new collaboration. The group featured:
- eric frank: guitar, vocals
- jason galbraith: tenor saxophone
- jonathan mchenry: drums
- kellen garcia: bass
- max haymer: piano, rhodes, hammond B-3
The Paradise Sessions is a documentation of this group. Days into the tour we realized that we had created a new sound for the songs, due to the combination of our playing styles, which we dubbed FOLK-ROCK-JAZZ-FUNK. The songs were now more funky, more upbeat and had a whole lotta musicianship. This was a sound that I hadn't captured on an album previously. After the tour, I quickly set some dates to record.
On March 31st & April 1st 2008 , we set up all at once and recorded at Paradise Studios in Sacramento, CA. We hoped to achieve a live studio recording that not only showcased the versions of these songs but brought our live energy which rooted itself largely in the musicality that comes from interaction between musicians. So it's not exactly a live record but it's not really a studio album either.
Though all these tracks have been previously released on other albums, the songs have grown, changed and found some new colors. I hope you enjoy The Paradise Sessions.

Hey Friends,
We will once again hit the road on tour in early 2009 in our beloved Ford Econo-line Van - that we so lovingly refer to as Bruce (or Brutus sometimes too) - and tour up and down the west coast. We are currently contacting venues but we want to hear from you and what towns/venues you would like to see us play.

In other news, my friend Eric Frank and I will be doing some recording in the beginning of November. These recordings will be very acoustic guitar driven and include some new material as well as songs like "Roads" that I have been playing live for a while.

Got a couple of things to report. They are as follows:

I am now active on twitter. Though it is unoriginal, my screen name is andrewheringer : which is easy to remember and to the point. Add me and let's type each other love notes in under 140 words.

The next show will be a special performance with some friends of mine Deceptive Cadence, an A Cappella Choir from UC Irvine. We will have a free show Tuesday, December 2nd at 8 pm on the UC Irvine Campus in the Studio Theater. We will each have a set and then do some songs together!

Golly. We have come to the last couple of days of 2008, haven't we. Here is a clip from my concert with the A Capella group from UC Irvine - Deceptive Cadence - of "She's Suddenly."
Here are a couple of music recommendations from great bands/artists that you need to hear who all put out music in the last couple of months. Not only are they some my family/best friends but they all make KILLER music.
This album, which is Marlana's first record, was also my first time in the "Producer" seat. We took our recording gear and went up to a cabin in Shaver Lake, CA this last August and recorded her 6 song EP : Sitting While Singing. I play on it as well as Kellen and Jon. Marlana is a songwriter who is also originally from my hometown of Placerville. My personal favorite is "Mexican Escape". Marlana has a really beautiful pure voice, great melodies and lyrics.
This is my sister's band. You can hear her on backing vocals. They have been described as "Post-Rock Hippies." They just released their first record as well. My favorite tracks are "One Hundred and Four" & "Marshall Field". Great vibe. Great lyrics.
Max can be heard on the Paradise Sessions on Piano, Rhodes and Hammond B-3. He is the most talented musician I have ever had the opportunity to write, play and record with. We have also been known to play lots of FIFA on Xbox. Max and I met at UC Irvine. Pickpocket Witness is his debut CD with his Jazz Trio. You might recognize the song "Goodnight" which he and I wrote together. He did a version of the song with his Jazz Trio. Also check out "Pickpocket Witness" - the melody line is ridiculous and Max's playing is spot on.
Many of you know Eric Frank who has played shows with me over the last couple of years and can be heard on all my records. This is his band Links from Los Angeles. They are a dirty bluesy rock group. Curtis Marrero, who played drums on "It Seems So Long Since Yesterday" is the drummer for Links. They have some songs up on their myspace and are looking to record soon in the new year. The favorite track of theirs on the myspace currently is Jack Keroauc.
Featuring my buddy Dan Byers on Trumpet - The Simple Citizens are a Funk & Hip-Hop group out of Los Angeles. They have some reggae, latin and jazz in there too at times. Really cool mix of genres. I have yet to see them live but I have heard it is off the hook.

PRESS RELEASE Andrew Heringer has spent the last year touring full time performing solo and with his band. Playing shows in California, Oregon, Washington as well as New York, he has sold thousands of CD's independently of any label representation. Often compared with the likes of Jason Mraz, Jack Johnson and Dave Matthews, Heringer writes feel good music that is introspective, thought provoking and connects with audiences of all ages. Andrew has spent the last several years finding a unique sound that blends his roots of rock and folk with training in jazz guitar and vocal/stage performance while also building a sizeable following throughout America. His songs have been showcased over 3 albums; & we hope (2005), Unfold (2006) and the E.P. -It Seems So Long Since Yesterday (2007). Though the instrumentation has changed with each recording, Heringer is known by fans for his honest, genuine lyrics and catchy melodies. His solo performances are dynamic and audiences can't help but be drawn in by the songs. Through years of acting experience, his natural and personal energy on stage makes him immediately identifiable and loveable as well. Being a trained vocalist and guitarist his performance is far from lacking. When playing with the full band, the songs are given a boost of musicianship and energy seen only when a group is having fun playing music. His band consists of a group of jazz players that give the folk-rock songs a jazz-funk twist. Eric Frank (Guitar), Kellen Garcia (bass) and Jonathan McHenry (drums) create a solid foundation reminiscent of the Dave Matthews Band while Jason Galbraith (tenor sax) and Max Haymer (piano, organ, rhodes) bring the sounds of funk and jazz and solos that will drop your jaw. The Andrew Heringer Band will be releasing their first album, The Paradise Sessions, together in the Summer of 2008 which is a collection of previously released songs by Heringer with the Folk-Rock-Jazz-Funk sound. |
